A Time To Rest
It's not the years, honey, it's the mileage.
— Indiana Jones
Life can take its toll on us and certainly the mileage we put on our bodies can make a difference. This Weekend we will observe Memorial Day. Many times these weekends are more work than rest. With all the travel, the rush, the people, the traffic, the worry, the food, the stress… it’s hard to get much rest. We may even have to go back to work just to feel rested. But God has intended we rest. Here is the definition of rest. I hope this weekend you find each and every one of them. And that you will build great memories in the process.
The dictionary gives the following definitions of rest:
1. To cease from action
The word rest means to cease from labor or exertion. Applying that to God's rest, it means no more self-effort--no more trying to please God by your fleshly works.
2. To be free from worry
To rest means to be free from whatever disturbs you, or causes you to worry. It means in this sense to be quiet, still, peaceful, and free from guilt. It means to be free from guilt, because our sin is forgiven.
3. To be secure
To enjoy God's rest is to be secure, having absolute trust and confidence that he will care for you.
4. To have something to lean on
You can rely on God for support, trusting Him to supply all your needs.
Start up the Grill!
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future Jeremiah 29:11.
